Books & Magazines

The Guild has a wonderful, extensive collection of books and magazines available for monthly loan to members, which is open on meeting days from 10am until 1pm. This service is available to members only, so please wear your membership badge so we don’t have to refuse you!

We subscribe to magazines from New Zealand, Australia, USA, Japan and the UK, and purchase several new books every month. We welcome advice from members on our book selection. As well as patchwork and quilting we have books on a variety of quilt-related subjects such as design, dyeing, and machine embroidery.

Reservations & Borrowing

New books can be reserved by writing your name on the 'reserve' card clipped to the front. We like these to remain on view until half an hour before the meeting time, when - if you are top of the list - you can take the book out.

For all other than brand-new books, if your name is at the top of the reserve list, you can take the book out at any time during the morning - please keep checking during the day to see if items you have requested have been returned. At midday we put a reminder call out for everyone first on the list to collect their reserves; at 12:15pm issues are open to anyone whether their name is on the reserve card or not.

We lend up to five books and seven magazines at a time, but don’t usually count as we have such a great stock. If you are not able to return your books by the date due, please email or phone one of the librarians with the catalogue number of the item and your membership number, or ask a friend to return them for you.

There is an honesty box to collect fines of 20c per item per month, with all funds being used for stationery or books for the library.

We have a catalogue of all the library stock: if you want a particular book we will do our best to locate/reserve it for you. And, if you feel like offering to help on meeting days, we are always very grateful; the willing participation of everyone (and the book collection too of course) is one of the things that make the library such a great asset to the Guild.

Other Items

Guild members can also hire videos, quilting stencils, CDs and DVDs, quilt display stands with calico backdrops, and a hand quilting frame. Charges are nominal and are advertised in the Guild newsletter. You will see the hire desk in the foyer at our meetings. Click here for the full list of what's available.

A photocopier is available for members to use at a small cost.
